2 Easy Solutions for the “Need to Blog But Don’t Want To Get Involved” Blues

It seems that many business owners have a real aversion to blogging. Most admit knowing that creating content and blogging are very important and necessary things to do, but just haven’t gotten around to it.  I’ve attached a round tuit, so let today be the day.

It’s true, that keeping up with a blog can be a big challenge, some of you have tried and found out just how hard it can be to get past the blogging learning curve, post frequent and relevant updates, optimize and promote…all of that. Still, not creating content and/or blogging is the one thing you really don’t want to push to the back burner. You need “media”.

This is not a post about the benefits of blogging, why it’s needed, or even how to go about doing it right…this post is to encourage you to get involved, for there is an easier way. Meet Posterous and Tumblr – they’re so darn easy, go ahead and set up one of each today!

You’ve heard the names and seen the links, you may have even clicked on a few and seen firsthand what it’s all about; friendly places on the web where you can create, save, store, and bookmark content that can then be linked to and shared any-and-everywhere. Both sites offer a bookmarklet than can be placed in your browser toolbar…and from there it’s a simple matter of dragging and dropping content to share!

Both services have extremely easy set up with a gentle user interface that’s easy to get used to. From these platforms you can set up auto-posting to other social sites such as your Facebook or Twitter account. Posterous seems to be the most robust for this purpose as it offers posting to 26 other services and sites. Both services offer simple point-and-shoot customization and allow you to do more if you have the skills. Both are set up to work with Google Analytics, which is a very good thing.

Posterous and Tumblr can both be updated via email, which is a nice fit for many, though you can post directly from the sites.  You can set up a custom domain for either of these, as some see this as a necessity…perhaps to better brand their new blog and align with an existing domain. As for community, both services have a large and loyal following. Either is a great place to use as a hub for building your own! In my mind, the ease of use in these two platforms should free up time for just that – building community…less time involved with maintaining your own platform!

I already have a blog to maintain here, and still I’ve set up on both of these services as well. I’m interested in the communities that are built around these platforms, and I like the simplicity factor. There are days when I’m not able to post a full blown article, but could still get some interesting content out there using these. Whether you already have a blog or are in need of one, these services are great and offer much.

In my view, blogging is essential to marketing success. But it does take work and discipline, which is why most people fail. You don't have to write Pulitzer-prize winning content, but you do have to write for your audience, and engage them. Thanks for sharing some tools that make it easier…
