Mandy, I loved your article yesterday on this topic! When you said "real relevance" just now, you said a mouthful! I'm still very excited to see how this impacts us all, and how companies may utilize all of this. Thank you for dropping in and leaving me a comment. I appreciate it!

James
Love how you point out that tweets and Facebook posts, not always bastions of keyword optimization, will now count. Companies (and those with personal brands to protect/promote) will need to be more focused on what they say, how they say it, and where they say it. The integration of marketing, PR and customer service will become more important than ever as relevance begins to drive search (real relevance, not algorithm artificial relevance).

Well put Brandon. Nimble and prepared to capitalize is a great motto! Keeping one's ear to the tracks and acting as situations shift…all at the same time, is a tricky act indeed. The constant state of frustration and confusion that permeates social media engagement is understandable. We’re all walking on shifting sand, and nothing seems secure or stable at this point. I don’t think that anyone can be truly comfortable in an environment such as this.
I think you are correct in saying that we can’t try to look too far down the line. Staying “plugged in” gets harder each day it seems. I can’t address it all here, but this is a great topic that I want to write about very soon…how to balance being prepared and still doing the work itself. Thank you for your insightful comment today!

Great points here James. This also underscores the importance of staying on top of what's happening in the digital/social space and also keeping a watchful eye toward the near future. Due to the rapid pace of chance, I think for the most part, around 3 months out is about right for looking at what's coming. When you get beyond that, it gets really hypothetical and so much can change to alter those predictions that fixating on a year out is perhaps futile. Organizations must be able to remain nimble and capitalize on engagement opportunities as they are available without getting stuck in preparing for what 'might' happen. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to pay attention to these shifts!

Jonathan, I’m with you buddy. I just finished my waffles and Coca-Cola…grabbing my sword and on my way to help you slay the rest of em’! (just kidding) After the stunned silence is gone, I think that this event in particular may prompt some who have been hesitant to finally participate. I have to believe this is a good thing. Forward we march my friend, never retreat! Thank you for your comment and testimonial!

It was your article that I came to first after posting this...which sent me off on an all day hunt for related articles! This is exciting, and I'm curious to see how it affects developing and in-place strategies. Thank you for your comment and kind words Shelly!

I think that we all try to keep our content fresh! As real-time search grows and becomes more popular, I do feel like it's important to consider exactly WHERE we place this fresh content! I appreciate your comment Chris.
