I’ve asked for, collected, and searched for tweets about what others feel that social media is and is not. The following are some that I found interesting. Thank you to those of you who participated and who are represented in the presentation. Feel free to share!
The presentation is but a sampling, I’m sure you have your own ideas about what social media is and what it is not. Keep it within the 140 character or less format and leave yours in the comments!

I appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment Cristina. I love "Golden Rules". After all, they are golden for a reason!
This was great James. I agree with all of them as Davina says.
I see Social Media as the practical application of the Golden Rule, "do to others what you would like to be done to you".
Thank you for your comment Davina. Sorry you didn't hear about it sooner, I didn't give much notice. I just asked and started collecting. You did get here right on time though, your last sentence up there is quite the "social media is…" entry!
Wow, you got some great responses, wish I'd have caught it earlier. Funny thing is that you have about 30 different answers and they are all pretty much true. Maybe social media is kinda like porn, you know it when you see it?
…and we're going to save the planet for crying out loud! :O)
Man, you have a lot of cynical people huh? I wonder what that means?
Love it James…great concept. Interesting that I found myself agreeing (even if only a little bit) with almost every one. AND, some of this made me laugh out loud.
What a great way to start the morning!
For me…"Social media is a way to connect and engage with our clients (and prospects)…to learn more, understand more, to make a difference."
But for those who really need to think about the bottom line, how about "Social media may not be the revenue STREAM but it is certainly the PATH leading up to it!"
I love BOTH of your offerings Torri, thank you for playing along!
"Social media is a way to connect and engage with our clients (and prospects)…to learn more, understand more, to make a difference." – My fave
James, you picked some excellent quotes! Two I had to go look up and favorite for myself:
@eel_trebor: Social Media: It is the best of tools, it is the worst of tools (to paraphrase Charles Dickens from A Tale of Two Cities)
@thechrisjordan Social Media is the new Chamber of Commerce, but a whole lot cooler.
Thanks for including mine, as well. Terrific round up!
Hello Becky! Awesome that you stopped in and left me a comment! I appreciated your input; especially the small town perspective…I totally get that living here. To quote Soundgarden, I spend much of my time "…looking California but feeling Minnesota". This is why I wanted to put this together largely by request to a local audience. I want to know what "Steve" on the corner thinks about all of this. It's great to hear from you today Becky.
Great collection James. It's always nice to see different perspectives on this subject. Next time, I'll have to be quicker on the draw.
Thanks Brandon, I'm glad you like it. I'll be doing more like this, and will certainly keep you in the loop!
This is a nice collective on social media! Thanks for including my 2 cents.
